The DEAP programme of work includes three seasons of excavation on Dùn Èistean in the summers of 2005, 2006 and 2007, followed by two seasons of post-excavation and analysis. Each year an interim excavation report is produced, and these can be viewed on the GUARD website. DEAP builds on three years of survey work and trial trench at the site, the details of which can be viewed on the previous work page.
The 2007 excavations from 25th June to 3rd August investigated four structures on the site – Structures C, D, F and G. It was a particularly exciting year, with evidence for several phases of occupation on the site suggested by the remains of an earlier building and midden in Structure D. More permanent occupation was also suggested by the exciting find in 2007 of a corn-drying kiln and barn at Structure C. Theories that the shallow scoops surveyed at Structure F may be shelters were confirmed in 2007 when an oval stone and turf structure was uncovered, which had been built into the slope overlooking the Palla. The construction and collapse of Structure G was also further investigated, and a small trench was excavated down the seaward side of the structure to look at the north-facing wall.
